Prof. Dr. Ş. Kerem ÖZEL
Pediatric Surgery/Pediatric Urology
He began his medical education in 1989 at Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, in the English Department. In 1995, he graduated and earned the title of medical doctor. In the same year, he started his specialization training in Pediatric Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery, and became a Pediatric Surgery Specialist in 2001. That same year, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Fırat University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery.
In 2008, he passed the associate professorship examination and earned the title of Associate Professor in Medicine. He worked at the same institution until 2010. In 2010, he was appointed as the Head of the Pediatric Surgery Department at Istanbul Bilim University Faculty of Medicine, where he received the title of Professor in 2013. Between 2010 and 2013, he served as Deputy Chief Physician at Istanbul Bilim University’s European Florence Nightingale Hospital, as Chief Physician in 2012, and as Vice Rector of Istanbul Bilim University until his departure in 2013. Since October 2017, he has been serving as a faculty member at Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery.
Prof. Dr. Ş. Kerem Özel has worked on pediatric urology and spina bifida at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery in 2005, and as an observer at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery in 2007. In 2014, he worked on "Robotic Pediatric Urology" at Texas Children’s Hospital in the United States.
Since 2013, through collaborations with the German Fetal Surgery Center at Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, he earned a "Fetal Surgery Certificate" and became part of the team performing Turkey's first in-utero fetal surgery operations under Istanbul Bilim University in 2015. He holds European Board Certifications in Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Urology.
He currently focuses on fetal surgery, pediatric urology, and the urological issues of spina bifida.
